Michigan family charged with serving alcohol to minors at party

A Michigan family is facing criminal charges after throwing a high school party and allegedly selling alcohol to the guests. This story shows how people can find themselves charged with a crime after apparently showing poor judgment.

Teenage party hosts

According to Click On Detroit, a Grand Traverse County couple and their 18-year-old daughter have all been charged in connection with a party that took place in their home on March 3. Police say that the daughter charged guests $5 in exchange for pizza and alcohol from the bar in the basement. Party-goers, who were all high school students, allegedly played drinking games.

Police learned about the party after a rumor spread that the father had sex with a girl. They investigated and found that the two did have sex, but that the girl was of age and the encounter was consensual. But they arrested both parents and the daughter on charges of selling or furnishing alcohol to minors and allowing minors to consume alcohol.

Making mistakes

Many times, people who get arrested or charged with a crime are not chronic offenders. They have made a mistake, and now they need a strong criminal defense attorney to help them reach the best possible resolution.

Anyone facing the possibility of time in jail or prison, a large fine, or other punishment should take the situation seriously. Before answering any questions from the police, call a defense attorney. He or she will advise you on how to preserve your rights and avoid costly mistakes.
